Brief Discussion On The Contemporaneity Of Liu Qinghe's Water-ink Portraits

In recent years, although the installation, performance, sculpture and other forms of contemporary art are becoming more and more flourishing in the world, Chinese painting has been in a kind of embarrass state. Questions of the relationship between Chinese painting and contemporary period, how Chinese painting enters into the contemporary period, relationship between ink and materials are confusing the artists and critics. Liu Qinghe is such a representative painter who has been creating city ink painting and keeping exploring in ink experiment since 90s. He watches living status of people living in city and shuttles in his own world with an attitude of keeping the reality at arm's or length. He record every detail of his concerns with a sensitive heart and penetrate the anxiety, confusion, desire etc. which the fast living pace, high pressure and unbalanced development bring to city people into his works. Liu Qinghe jumped out of the shackles of traditional Chinese ink painting technique language and constructed his own artistic language system. From"Drizzle"in 1991 to"Emergence"Suzhou exhibition plan 2010, he never satisfies what he has achieved in each period and never adhere to past practices, he always to find different feelings in familiar conditions, keeping experiencing new surpasses in art. These surpasses include continuous practice and exploration in ink language, as well as the gradual transformation of the artistic ideas and extension. This thesis is based on the main line of several important surpasses in Mr. Liu's works in two decades, his individual frank line charm, particular painting interest and vivid simple creating ideas to discuss and analyze the questions of how ink painting intervenes the contemporary period, how picture combine with space, how shall we think the line expression in Chinese paintings, how shall we found our own painting interest system in contemporary period language situation and how to find a way to connect with our inner heart world, etc. Liu Qinghe'art provides us a method of thinking and expressing in terms of ink which leads us to examine our life even culture newly.
