Translation is one of the most important ways for international communication and broadcast of cultures, a necessary way to make China known by foreigners. With large amounts of output of culture in recent years, the necessity of doing research on translation gradually shows, especially translation of the classical works which is worth study. Liaozhai is a collection of short stories of strong romanticism, which is also called a masterpiece of Chinese classical fiction. In the process of translation, the translator, being a subject, can exert his own initiative for a large extent choosing the proper translation strategy. However, such initiative is limited, that is, the choice of translation strategies is constrained by factors such as the background of the translator, bilingual ability, understanding, aesthetic ability, audience awareness and so on. Therefore, the study of translation should not stop at the surface, with the criteria of "faithful, expressive and elegant" as a measure of evaluating the translation. It may be a good starting point that we do the research from the point of the translator's subjectivity to analyze the choice of translation strategies. This paper, based on the perspective of the translator's subjectivity, compares the four English versions of Liaozhai and point out that cultural identity, age background and purposes of translation mainly influence the choice of translation strategies. The preface of the Liaozhai makes an brief introduction of development of the English versions, research significance and situations respectively. First, the main body of the paper makes a general introduction of subjectivity and its performance and features, as well as selecting three aspects which have great effect on choosing strategies. Then it is followed by the comparison of the four translators from the three aspects mentioned above to discuss the influence of choosing the strategies. Finally, the paper makes a contrast from the strategies dealing with style of sentence and language, special sentence and culture-loaded words to show the subjectivity of translator reflected in the translation process and the specific impact on the choice of translation strategies. The conclusion presents that the subjectivity of translator plays an important role in the process of translation, which is a topic with extremely rich content, and looks forward to more focus on it.
