Study On Affixes In Contemporary Chinese

The research on affixes in Contemporary Chinese is a long-standing problem. With a view to going further into the nature and range of affixes in Contemporary Chinese, the paper probes into the problem on the basis of the studies of predecessors. First, the paper makes a retrospective view of brief history of the studies and the different viewpoints on the nature of affixes in Contemporary Chinese, and then discusses the character of affixes. In our opinion, affix in Contemporary Chinese is an empty morpheme to form a word. It has fixed position and additional meaning and functional adherence to another morpheme. According to this understanding, the paper makes a comprehensive investigation into 134 affixes listed by 17 books and papers, and put forwards a new viewpoint on the nature and range of affixes in Contemporary Chinese.
