Tonality and mode are a clue of musical development, even to say an important aspect. Meanwhile, it is a complex problem for on-going creativity on composing technology and composer's pursuit for color, motive-force new effect and different style, especially from late romanticism. As a result, various applied techniques break out tonality -a- traditional idea. Tonality music comes near to atonality music. The essay takes the development of tonality and mode as beginning and shows some private views on tonality and mode from harmonics angle. In addition, it analyzes a phenomenon -eertain-tonality basis in the development from tonality music to mode music.The essay includes of three parts:I . Describe ""tonality" in details.It mainly points at two aspects of tonality followed by tonality framework and mode framework. Tonality will be easy to us after understanding the frameworks.II . Analyze "certain-tonality basis"There are some complex phenomena in the process from tonality music to mode music. The essay takes some representative works as examples in order to analyze the phenomenon. To explain it clearly that the phenomenon is a wide area, a bridge or a moderate color between tonality music and mode music.III . Make a conclusion to "mode character"There are different types for mode according to different nationalities and regions. This kind of constructive difference will lead to different types, colors and specialties which are called as "mode character". The essay takes seven church modes in the middle age Europe as examples to make a detailed conclusion about them among these modes. So this kind of phenomenon is not occasional coincide but widespread one. It not only reflects inner regularity and organization but also enjoys high value and deep meaning on theory and practice.
