Quantitative Analysis Of Temporal Clauses In T4

Temporal clauses in T4 (which is a subcorpus of English for Science and Technology corpus JDEST ) are investigated to identify the features of temporal clauses in English for Science and Technology. This research is based on the traditional grammatical theory and corpus study with the assistance of statistical package and computer programs, hi the course of investigation, temporal clauses, classified into finite and abbreviated clauses in T4, is the subject of formal, syntactic and semantic analysis in comparison with the other five corpora MEE, MTE, NEC, LOBA and BROWNA. The use of temporal subordinators are also examined in detail. The findings of this study in general confirm previous descriptions on temporal clauses. The study also reveals a number of special features of temporal clauses in T4.
