The narrative structure system of Records of the Historian is not only a problem at form but also one of contents that contain plentiful cultural connotations and ideas. It suits the basic idea of System Science in the aspects of its integrity, arrangement, purpose and adaptability. As the estrangement of Si Maqian's mode of thinking and the carrier of his thoughts, the book ROH well presents the cultural connotation through its narrative structure. From the past till the present, there are many accomplishments in the study of ROH. And the study keeps moving on in ways ranging from emendation to remarking upon segments, and then to exerting a lot of methods. It is an attempt to study ROH in the approach of System Science. There were some scholars who studied the book from the perspective of its form or from a certain aspects of System Science. The author thinks that the study can be furthered in a deeper and wider sense with regard to the distinctive features of the book and the primary principle of System Science.In order to carry out the demonstration smoothly, the author no longer repeats the accomplishments of study in the preface, but lays stress on explaining System Science. For the basic frame of this thesis, the author adopts the method of System Science. From the background of its narrative structure to its goal-system, to its structure system, and then to its effects, the author reveals the cultural connotation and idea step by step and establishes the new historian status for this book from the perspective of its system of narrative structure. The first chapter of this thesis talks about the background of the formation of its narrative structure. It contains several aspects, such as social condition, pattern of thinking, development regularity of biography, arranging for pattern, personal factors and so on. Whereby, it is discussed how the system of the narrative structure of ROH had come into form. The rudimentary impression of its unity and flexibility can be obtained. The second chapter is the analysis of narrative goal of Records of the Historian. Stage by stage,it points out the gross narrative goal that contains researching the relationship between providence and artifice, summarizing the regularity of history and forming one's own work. It also points out the sub-goals: the value-oriented beliefs of SMQ. Then many cultural factors behind the gross goal such as theory of descent, and that behind the sub-goals such as progressive idea of history can be found. Thus the undiscovered narrative structure determined by sub-goals is analyzed from three aspects in this thesis: unitary politics, unitary economy and unitary of nation. The cultural connotations of ROH are explained in the precious two chapters. Then the form of ROH is described directly in the third chapter. On the basis of the precious two chapters, it explains the apparent narrative structure system that is well-bedded It obviously embodies the characteristics of the narrative structure system of Records of the Historian. It is also the expression of goals mentioned above. From the relationship between the five patterns to a certain pattern, to four narrative modals of several articles to one article, the author adopts the -^search accomplishments in pattern arranging for Records of the Historian Then the logical arrangement of speciality can be explained deeply. The fourth chapter simply establishes the new historical status for narrative structure system. We can make sure of its status of history and literature in China. And we can also explicate its influence. At last, the representative accomplishments in the aspect of ROH are looked back to, and then it is restated that exerting System Science to analyze Records of the History is practicable and significant. The two questions that relation to the study are explained.
