Enlightening Narratives And Discourses Of Modernity Within Modernist Poetry In The 1940s

There must be a certain spiritual disposition in the modernist poetry in the 1940s as an interpretive unity. It is the very goal of the current dissertation. If we place the modernist poetry in the 1940s into the enlightenment development in the first half of the 20th century, this disposition is described as "Enlightening Rationalism". It is during the process of "Modernization" that the modernist poetry in the 1940s displays such a disposition.The first part takes a phenomenological inspection into the modernist poetry in the 1940s. The concept of "Enlightening Rationalism" is against the grand background of the western culture. The author imports it, expounds briefly the burden of this concept and analyzes emphatically the relationships between "Enlightening Rationalism" and "modernity", esp. the inner logic and paradox in "Modernity". Making reference to these two concepts theoretically, this dissertation analyzes their characteristics in the Chinese context and the complicated meanings of "Modernity". The modernist poetry in the 1940s is a significant part in the process of the "Modernization" of the modern literature, as the author puts it. The special disposition is "Enlightening Rationalism", and the inner paradox is contained in the modern poetry in the 1940s.The second part interprets such a disposition and the inner paradox of "Modernity". The "Enlightening Rationalism" within the modernist poetry in the 1940s stands out from within the value orientation, themes, poetic regulations and so on. "Enlightening Rationalism" lies in an inner pulse for value and the construction of the value system in the practical composition of poems, while the paradox of "Modernity" lies in such a fact that the poets doubts and rejects "Modernity" just in the course of pursuing "Modernity".The third part is the conclusion. Compared with the earlier enlightenment movement, its "Enlightening Rationalism" has gone further onto a higher step. Meanwhile, the inner logic and paradox of modernity are also presented from within the modernist poetry in the 1940s. With these characteristics, the modernist poetry in the 1940s possesses a position of its own in the history of literature, thoughts and culture.The current author has a try to put the studies on modern poetry into the studies on the history of thoughts and culture, or, on the contrary. Phenomenology is the general methodology. Cultural and historical studies and text interpretation are the dominant methods in the arguing process.
