The thirty-eight years of the Republic of China is an important period in the growth of Protestant churches in Guangdong province. During that time, the churches had to face all kinds of difficulties in spreading Christianity. They availed themselves of all the possible opportunities to fulfil their mission. In order to conquer the people's mind with Christianity, they did a lot of social work such as providing teaching, medical service and charity to the local people besides their missionary work. Objectively speaking, what they did benefited them very little in attracting believers but facilitated the development of the society of Guangdong. In the process of preaching, they tried to adapt to the Chinese society by making some reforms and strengthening their relationship with the governments, and thus secured with a slow but constant development in the war-torn environment of the Republic of China.
