A Study On The Popularization Movement Of Chinese New Poetry In The 20th Century

Literature, being present in various forms, is not simply the namesake of elegant literature, for popular literature is of no doubt an important component part of literature. But it is obvious that the previous literature research ignores popular literature, especially in the field of poetry. Therefore, studying Chinese new poetry's popularization movement(NPPM) in the 20th century has become an necessity.Literature's development and society's evolution are interrelated. The special language environment in the 20th century makes Chinese NPPM different from either "the principles of literature and art PM", or the "popular culture" in the commercialized society. Since new poetry carried special task in special times, its popularization professes both popularity in form and seriousness in content.Researching from the perspective vertical, NPPM has its continuous locus of the self-discipline movement during the developing process of Chinese literature: "Literature and Art popularization" in the 1930s, "Literature goes to the countryside, or enlist in the armed forces" in the 1940s, "Literature should service for politics" from 1950s to 1970s, and popularization is pluralistic since 1980s. Studying form the horizontal perspective, NPPM embodies different purpose in different times: enlightening in the 1920s, saving the nation from extinction in the 1930s and 1940s, supporting politics from 1950s to 1970s , and concerning about the reality since 1980s.NPPM is, after all, a movement of poetry, so it is necessary to study it in an artistic way. Of art and reality, NPPM prefers the latter one. This movement reflects ignorance of poetry: modelization of creating pattern, neglect of another's idea, and simplity of language. Meanwhile, it also partly reflects understanding of poetry: excavating the artistic pattern of folk, harmonizing relation between poetry and readers, and making language fresh.As a non-poetry's developing way, in such a new century and new language environment NPPM will continue with the adding of new quality to the popular poetry, for the decisive deep factors which cause NPPM still exist.
