Yu Hua's success in writing transition is the most noticeable among the writers of vanguard. From the vanguard writing to folk novels, Yu Hua not only kept the western modern cultural spirit, but also added Chinese traditional spirit in his post-turning novels. This made his folk novels have the traditional and modern connotation. The paper wants to explain Yu Hua's folk novels' deeply cultural connotation from the following aspects: life consciousness, death consciousness, humanity conception and father image. In Yu Hua's folk novels, he tried to describe the life's absurd and agony. On the other hand, he stressed that the life's significance is living, because of the traditional life consciousness. The life consciousness in the tradition, however, may not get rid off the life's absurd and agony, for the life's toughness from the biological living may not be the true significance of life. The death consciousness in the novels reflected the death conception of seeing living hope from death and the Chinese traditional death conception ofavoiding or transcending death. This so-called transcending which is an actual avoiding had the Chinese people think the death reasonable, thus they showed unconcerned feeling to death. On life reception, Yu Hua tried to explore the deeply evil and absence in life. He treaded the evil of humanity as a normal state of life, and he also added the traditional culture, which meant that the humanity is kind, to make it as the target of the human being's advancement. From "against patriarchy" at the beginning to "establishing patriarchy" in the end, father image's rebuilding meant that Yu Hua revalued the traditional culture. Actually, it is doubt if the father's image, which combined the tradition with the modernist , is the spiritual father of the modern Chinese people.Since Yu Hua combined the traditional culture spirit with the modern culture spirit together, his folk novels were more attractive than the works of vanguard. But i.t seemed that Yu Hua lose anger to the reality and hope to the future, then he may shake hands with the reality with lofty manners. When the readers and critics sang high praise for Yu Hua's works, what the paper researched on the folk novels' cultural significance may not be concerned by Yu Hua himseif.
