This paper attempts to analyze the characteristics of British RP (Received Pronunciation) vowels by Shanghai Dialect speaking middle-school students,the relationships between British RP system,Putonghua system and the Shanghai Dialect system and the influence of Putonghua and Shanghai Dialect over the pronunciation of RP vowels by studying the experimental materials obtained through field recording. After a series of analyses,it is found that the Shanghai Dialect has a stronger influence over the RP vowels pronunciation;its influence from relatively strong to weak is seen from the three groups: RP pronunciation by the Shanghai Dialect-speaking middle-school students has been under certain school instruction and through their own effort to some extent,but lack accuracy.
