The present study attempts to investigate the major factors related to the learning of English as foreign language of the physical education students. The author aims to answer the following research questions:1. Arc the physical students learning English by instrumental or integrativemotivation? (And which kind of motivation affects their English learning more strongly?)2. Are they extroverts or introverts? (Are the majority of them with extrovertpersonality?)3. What are their attitudes toward English learning?The study has explored the main factors, which may facilitate or debilitate the students' English learning interest and proficiency. The research sought to answer the three questions above. Eighty students of four grades from three departments of Xi'an Physical Education Institute participated in the research. They have been randomly chosen. Three questionnaires and an interview as well as the daily observation were administered as the instruments of the study. The collected data were analyzed by exploratory factors analysis (EFA) and descriptive research techniques as well. The findings indicate that 60% of the physical students are characteristic of extroversion, with 30% of them being introvert, and with 10% of them being uncertain of their personality types; more than half of them are learning English with instrumental motivation; and the frequency proportion of positive attitude and the negative one is 0.754<1, indicating that students have a little bit negative attitude tendency towards English learning. The result suggests that both instructors and education administrators as well as students should be fully aware of the students' motivation characteristics, their personality types, and attitudes toward English, and then adopt the correspondingteaching and learning methodologies to improve English learning of physical education students.
