The phenomenon of "Ren xia" , which originated in the spring and Autumn period (770-476 B.C.), was closely related to the historical background at that time. As a particular social community, "Renxia" has gained much attention from scholars, who attempted to interpret it from different perspectives. The present paper, by drawing on findings of sociology, aims to seek a more objective understanding on the phenomenon, from which one may find the far-reaching influence "Renxia" made in history, and the close connection between this phenomenon and crimes in the societies of later agesThe paper falls naturally into four parts, Introduction, based on criminal phenomenon in the underworld, hopes to discover the close relationship between crimes in the underworld and "Renxia" .The first part makes a brief review of the study, which was conducted mainly in the 20th century, on "Renxia " from the spring and Autumn period to the warring states (475-221B. C) By drawing on theories both in history and in sociology, this part tries to probe into the underlying causes which resulted in this phenomenon.The second part makes a thorough analysis on three essential factor which attributed to the occurence of this phenomenon. Firstly, it was caused by political conflicts in ruling classes. Secondly, it was due to unsound law system. Lastly, social conviction was at the edge of collapse at that time.The third part reflects the influence "Renxia" has made on later ages.The fourth part constitutes the conclusion of the paper .
