Starting with the relation between the author himself and his works, this thesis aims to penetrate Lu Xun' s novels and their character images and makes an analysis in terms of characters' connotation, relation between character series and that between characters and the author himself so as to value objectively the value significance of the character image series in Lu Xun' s novels."Introduction" mainly describes the motivation of Lu Xun' s creation: every person in China does become a "person" in a real sense, which constitutes the whole "country" . Only in this way can new life come into being in China. It is the very thought of "person in a real sense" that made him give up his idea of becoming a doctor and become engaged in creative writing."Highlight on modern remains--essence of 'lunatic'image series" : part one of the thesis. From this group portrayed by Lu Xun, people see awakened masses' subjective introspection and strong will approximately like pride as well as great sadness that they are isolated from mediocre people and almost licked up. This group embodies the Chinese' s unyielding and positive "backbone spirit" ."Morbid soul in a morbid society--essence of 'A Q'image series" : part two of the thesis. These character images portrayed by Lu Xun reflect the main characteristics of the whole country in a morbid society and become the focus of Lu Xun' s "disclose sicknesses and pains, and attract the attention of curing and rescuing" . This group always takes being a subordinate slave as the biggest happiness in their lives and subordinate to their masters or those slaves stronger than themselves. However, as long as there is any possibility, they will humiliate those slaves weaker than themselves. When they want to become slaves but could not, they may summon up all their courage to rise up, but only in their own way."Grey ring of encirclement of numb and mediocre people-梕ssence of 'onlooker' image series" : part three of the thesis. This group embodies the common characteristics of the whole country in a morbid society and reflects the way of life, interpersonal relation and people* s value and fates of the Chinese during that times. The "onlooker" effects they have formed make morale hard to agglomerate or to summon up their courage. They are the strongest obstruction to the "person in a real sense" cause."Summary" : describes the use of multiple artistic means in Lu Xun' s portrayal of characters. Realism is Lu Xun' s main creative means, but Lu Xun creatively employs other means of representation for the sake of artistic representation.
