Narration Of Urban Life By Female Writers

The article, which bases on the works by Zhang Ai-li & Wang An-yi that reflects the life in Shanghai, tries to compare their topics, times, ways and styles of writing; to put their relations; and in order to search their devotion to Shanghai culture.As two female writers with similar historical point of view, Wang An-yi & Zhang Ai-ling both tell us ordinary stories rather than great historical ones. They are similar in describing the heroines' daily life, their emotion and marriage. They both have deep emotion psychology of contrast: present-past. They tell us the old and new look of Shanghai by recalling the life in the city.However, Zhang spreads us a big world which she has ever experienced and she carves the look of old Shanghai from her growing up memory. Shanghai exists faithfully in her stories, while Wang has never experienced the life in old Shanghai. Shanghai, in her stories, mainly comes from the memory from the films and picture books, comes from her thoughts and sharp insight. Zhang is good at uncovering the citizens' souls from a distance in perspective of unhealthy humanity. She may lead the readers to step into the inner world of the heroine. Wang likes to spread her splendid drawings in the wide world, She is after the width of covering area and focuses on leading us to walk into a far greater space. She has more dull and ordinary state of mind and more wide cultural horizon than Zhang. Zhang is a sensitive writer, she feels loneliness in the society with prosperous surface. Wang is a high rational writer, she analyzes the permanent changes in a maze of the city by using her own growing up experience. She lays her emphasis on the relationship between the city and people, and expresses desolation in life to the greatest extent.Generally to say, like Zhang, Wang is also the person who passes on the soul of Chinese culture and she is not the successor of Zhang.
