During the time the old century alternates with the new ,Wang Xiao Bo who was somewhat an unknown writer before became a central issue. People of the cultural and intellectual circles actively or passively joined in commenting on him again. That was acuter after his death.It appeared later that people began to analyze Wang Xiao Bo at that time. Huaxia Publishing House held a discussion on his works after Wang Xiao Bo's works spread on the mainland. It focused on the sex description of the ''Golden times", arguing about whether it's pornography or non-pornography. People also debated the influence of Wang Xiao Bo's works, mainly fixing his position. Afterwards some articles expounded his novel structure and style. But these all seemed tender.At the end of the 90s, Wang Xiao Bo's thoughts from his novels and informal essays which were against the traditional value were accepted by the mass. The number of such works are tens of thousands as analyze liberalism at the background of the origins of the modern thoughts, meanwhile showing liberalist trend. Somehow most of the articles had no clear assess between his novels and essays. Of course rare monographs studied Wang's essays.This paper tries to analyze the characteristics of Wang Xiao Bo's essays from the next three: the changes of the Chinese Modern essays, the transforming of the Chinese intelligentsia's enlightened thoughts and the critical features of Wang Xiao Bo's essays. This paper compares Wang Xiao Bo's enlightened thoughts to the enlightened thoughts of the May 4th Movement showing the historical meaning of Wang's creation, against autocracy, for the independence and freedom; against ignorance, for the scientific rationality in details. The paper also discovers the origins of Wang's thoughts and significance hoping to show the cultural features of the 90s cultural value by showing Wang's spirits; pointing out the significance of constructing a new style thought by pointing out Wang's cultural value at the end of the twentieth century.
