| This thesis refers to the materials of Beethoven's piano sonatas and the documentations from esthetics, philosophy, etc. for the purpose of probing objectively and historically into the "heroic" emotional characteristics of Beethoven's piano sonatas through structuralist research, namely by studying those musical works themselves.The whole text consists of four sectors:I: "The Formation and Development of Sonata" briefly traces the origin of sonata and the successiveness of Beethoven's works;II: "The Relationships between Beethoven's Sonatas and his Symphonies" aims to analyze and expound the performances on the content of Beethoven's "heroic" emotion and the commonness between the two types of expressional techniques;III: "The Performances of the 'Heroic' Emotion in Beethoven's Sonatas" endeavors to demonstrate the refraction of Beethoven's "heroic" emotion in current times from social and historical aspects;IV: "The Promethean Expressional Techniques" is the main part of this thesis, which expatiates on the "heroic" emotional characteristics of Beethoven's sonatas respectively from four aspects, namely from utilizing disharmonious tones to express the individualized "heroic" emotion, from taking lyric emotion to serve as a foil to heroic emotion, from adopting assorted melody to form the successive development of the heroic emotional features, from innovating the structure and scale to project the heroic emotional characteristics.It is held in this thesis that those thirty-two sonatas are the brilliant condensation of Beethoven's whole emotional experience in his life, and Beethoven's all works are a successive moving process as well as a complete and well-ordered emotion system, namely, a comprehensive organism: from looming daybreak to waning moon night, from the sorrow mood following thunderstorms to the passion, nothing is not the symphony of Beethoven's indulgent and restrained, mild and gritty, perplexed and awakening, treacherous and tame characteristics, his broad bosom and his commiserative stance towards all humanity. |
