Materials play an important role in the development of art and design. Nowadays, many materials are researched in many art fields. Current fiber art has very close relationship with the development of materials. In the west countries, fiber art is not only popular, but also developing very fast. Fiber art is penetrating into every corner of current life. In China, practical and artistic fiber art is used in luxury buildings. Some famed artists and art colleges are very much involved in the fiber art design. Compared with the fiber art in western countries, Chinese ones are simple and lack of exploration, and soft materials are not widely used in China. Some fiber arts are in two dimensions, making them lack of creativity and expressive force. To interpret the languages of fiber arts, to create with modem ideas, and to make a multi-mode and multi-dimension fiber art in China is becoming more and more important.This article explains people's feeling for materials and emphasizes the essentiality of materials. In the article, the development of fiber art is stated from the points of materials.
