Blood consciousness calls for real loveIn D. H. Lawrence's work especially in The Rainbow we can see descriptions of blood consciousness everywhere. According to Lawrence, there exists much reflection of the call of blood consciousness in human activities. Blood consciousness is just apperception toward blood while apperception toward blood is intuition. Lawrence laid much stress on apperception toward blood. All he needs is to answer the call of his blood , not to be mixed up with the mind, morality and anything else disturbing. He has found his own particular and brand new artistic approach which let his characters act within certain social concept and moral system, no longer like that in the traditional literature. He has broken away from the ideal mode of character molding and narrating. His characters behave under apperception within a grandiose space background, according to the rhythm of life's instinct to reveal the characters' subconscious prototype self which is the so called strength, abstruse, miracle of blood consciousness and the collide and amalgamation of the instinct of two sexes. So a brand new versatile life and a full life deeply rooted in our mind is revealed. The baffling world is a real world. In order to reflect the immanent reality and open out the human depth, Lawrence tried to describe the contradiction of the material world hoping to develop immensity within finitude and finding eternity through instance. The now existing world is illusive to Lawrence and the biggest lie is the so called human civilization. The natural existence of human has never been appreciated within the rules of human civilization. Modern education and social laws are opposite to human nature. Human is at loose ends every where in this society so the conflict between human nature and sociality make life a combat at the very beginning. In this combat such a person like the first generation hero Tom Brangwen vindicates his humanity unhesitatingly. There is also such person like Anthony who submits to the pressure of from the material world whose humanity falls into truculence. Most people are at loose ends between innermost lust and exterior pressure, which results in character split and self deformity like Anna and Wiley. The alternate occupancy of coexistence and collide of concepts and emotion results in a fluidity if characters' consciousness. This is the characteristic of The Rainbow and also of the transitional time in Lawrence's transitional society. The Rainbow has recorded a disappearing time during which the rapiddevelopment of British Industrial Revolution resulted in the change of productive relationship. It also resulted in the transform of social relation and interpersonal relation. The original attitude and concept had been fluctuated. Railway and canal, the industrial symbol had trespassed the then tranquil field and villages. It also left a impact on the once calm villagers' mind. The crash of traditional concepts was both abrupt and sudden. There was desire and blankness within people. Lawrence just brought the felling of turbulence and unsteadiness to the sentimental life of the three generations of the Brangwens. The quest for ideal bisexual circumstancesIn Lawrence's work Tom is a character of integrate humanity with natural and social balance and harmony. His marriage was successful. Tom was not a simple farmer. He had a firm feeling toward soil and natural vitality. His desire for noble woman Lydia was actually a desire for a perfect conception of 'Holy and worldly Harmony and Unity.' It was a pursuit after fresh consciousness and perfect taste of the outer world. His dream came true and a rainbow appeared over his head—a capitalized intent in the book, a symbol of intactness. Anna and Wiley lived in the 1890's during which Britain was under the transition from agricultural civilization to industrial civilization. There was crack between man and woman, religion and nature, religion and this life, sensibility and sense. This antagonism embodied in the fight of...
