A Conception Of Electronic Dictionary User Activity Monitoring System

Dictionary use research is one of the important components of modern lexicography study. This paper is devoted to the construction of applied lexicography research. From the standpoint of electronic dictionary use research, the author developed in this paper an electronic dictionary user activity monitoring system. It is aimed at capturing, recording and querying the using information of the widely used electronic dictionary - Kingsoft Power Word 2002. Through this program, dictionary researchers can get the using information, such as the word, its context, and its definition, part of speech selected by the users as well as its using frequency. This project can help the electronic dictionary researchers to grasp the using information of an electronic dictionary. Therefore on the basis of analyzing the using record, the lexicographers can further make improvement on designing and compiling electronic dictionaries in the future, so as to make them more convenient and more user-friendly.
