Reading teaching is the center of English teaching in college , and how to enhance teaching efficiency is very important . In the paper , the nature of reading is analyzed from linguistic perspective , so that a more reasonable conclusion can be reached about how to improve reading teaching .The four most critical focuses in the whole process of reading are:(1) Schema. The information people get from the outside world is just like a circle, whose continuous enlargement can also facilitate readers' reading activity , thereby readers can receive and digest more useful information .(2) Motivation and purpose. A strong motivation is a very fundamental prerequisite for success in reading , and purposeful reading can translate into effective reading easily.(3) Vocabulary . Students' vocabulary decides their reading results . Via word teaching , teachers can help enlarge their vocabulary, further, enhance their reading efficiency.(4) Reading skills . Possession of the three previous elements is not enough to be a good reader , for a qualified reader reads with skills . So the teaching of reading skills are indispensable in the process of teaching and learning English readingCorresponding to the four key elements in reading process , specific teaching strategies are presented , that is to say , the complete set of teaching strategy to enhance English reading teaching efficiency in college , put forward in my paper with the help of my own teaching experiences and also strong support from authoritative theories , is the point of innovation in this thesis .
