There are seven garrisons in the west of Jiayu Pass during Ming dynasty, that is Anding, Aduan,Quxian, Handong, Shazhou, Chijin Mongolia and Hami. Based on the former studies, integrating the classical books handed down from ancient times, according to nationality, religion, history and geography, this thesis tries to make a systematic study on the policy of northwest border and the seven garrisons in the west of Jianyu Pass during Ming dynasty.This thesis is divided into four parts:The first part briefly discusses the problem that how many people to study the policy of norhtwest border and the seven garrisons during Ming dynasty and why I want to write this article.The second part will study the situation of northwest border, the character of border policy and the reason, proceeding of setting up seven garrisons in the west of Jiayu Pass during Ming dynasty. Here are the main idea: Ming dynasty government adopts special frontier policy to set up seven garrisons in the west of Jiayu Pass is just because of its special situation of northwest frontier.The third part will study the history evolution and function of seven garrisons. The author comes to some conclusion as follow: seven garrison are more benificial to Ming dynasty's frontier than others.The fourth will study the relation between seven garrisons in the west of Jiayu Pass and Yugu nationality. I think that the east-migration of seven garrisons is the important mark of Yugu nationality's formation.
