The dissertation has given a comprehensive analysis to the production, transportation, influence, social and economical reasons of prosperity and decline of Gannan' s tabacco in Qing Dynasty. It points out that in the late Tianqi and Chongzhen period of Ming Danasty, tobacco were transported into Gannan from Fujian province. Gannan' s tobacco production continued to develop day by day before Jiaqing period, but stopped and then sunk into the declination after Daoguang period. There are two reasons for its prosperity: firt, the promptation of the Mingguang' s immigrants, who not only brought the production technology of tobacco, but also became the main part of its production and sole in Qing Dynasty, second, the slack of the policy to ban the tobacco in Qing Danasty; the vigorous market demand and the stimulation of high profits. Different from some current views in the accadamic field, the author holds that the tobacco production and sale resulted in the better economy structure, strenghen the economic relationship in and out of the district and stepped up its continual development. At the same time, the author denys the view that the contradiction between the tobacco and the grain is the root of causing Gannan' s tobacco production to sink into the declination in Qing Dynasty, and the main reasons are as follows: On one hand, after JiaQing and Daoguang period wither of tobacco market out of district and the stimulation of opium. On the other hand, during the process of localization, the confrontation of obstacles on the techmology and the mind resulted in the loss of the tobacco profits.
