Traditionally, literatranslation has been eoneeived as a Proeess of linguistictransference,in wllieh the translator should solely eoneern himself with thepreservation of the textual features of the souree text. Therefore the ParticiPation ofthe translator has been eomPletely negleeted and the PrineiPle of"fidelity,,has been往水en as the guiding rule. However,in Praetice absolute fidelity 15 all but imPossible, for eultural differenee and the dilemma in Presentation are unavoidable in anytranslation Praetiee.Translators do not work in ideal or abstract situations, nor desireto be innoeent, but have vested literary and eulral interests of their own andmeanwhile been influeneed by some other factors. Quoting Robert Esearpit,5 eoneePt of"creative treason,,,the thesis aimsto, rough a detalled analysis ofthetranslator'sereativetreasoninliter anslation, analyze the main faetors that govern the Production and recePtion of translation, andto henee Prove that the translator'5 ereative treason 15 an inherent factor in 11ytranslation,whieh bestows individuality on translations made at different historicalages and by different translators.on the other hand, though neeessa'ereativetreason must be carriedo以within a limitation.Te thesis endeavors to eall-on歇tention to restrietions on the translator'5 ereative treason 50 as to avoid over ereativetreason or inapProPriate ereative treason. It indieates that the translator should bringhis ereativeness into full Play while at the same time keeP elose watch over themainstream of translation norms with his good eommand of the souree text,50 as toachieve a sort of balanee between his ereativeness andthe"maero,,eo爪extaswe!!assatisfaetory results in terms of Ianguage, eulture and soeiety. The author hoPes the thesis would be somewhat helPful for translators andresearehers to deePen the understanding of ereative treason and to treat it ProPerly intranslation Practiee and meanwhile helPful for the erities to evaluate translated worksand objectively attach apProPriate imPortance to the stuofthe translator.
