| The Book of Nan Qi Dynasty , written by Xiao Zixian, is the earliest history record about the period of Nan Qi Dynasty now available. The material in this book is highly trustworthy, part of which is similar to the spoken language during that time, well representing the popular language style then. Therefore, the Book of Nan Qi Dynasty is quite useful during our research on the Middle Ages Chinese language.There are lots of adverbs used in ancient Chinese language. Many issues are still not in consensus because their usage is quite complex, and further research is needed.Furthermore, there are not so many researches on the Middle Ages Chinese language until now, especially on the adverbs of that period. Therefore, we focus on the adverbs used in the Book of Nan Qi Dynasty during our research, hoping to contribute to the research work on the history of Chinese language, as well as the research on the Chinese grammar.This paper is organized into three chapters. First: Outline of the Book of Nan Qi Dynasty. This chapter examines the Book of Nan Qi Dynasty in detail, describes the adverbs in categories, summarizes the analysis of their usage, and then outlines the general style and characteristic of these adverbs. Second: Analysis of the semantic direction of adverbs in the Book of Nan Oi Dynasty. This chapter focuses on the adverbs from the Middle Ages Chinese language used in the Book of Nan Qi Dynasty, analyzes their semantic direction, and then summarizes the characteristic and rules of the semantic direction of adverbs during this period. Third: Case study. This chapter studies on three adverbs: 'Tuo', 'Yijiu', and 'Feichang', analyzes the process and causation of their grammaticalization. |
