This paper mainly focuses on Katherine Anne Porter's writing themes and styles. The themes can be divided into three parts according to the views of a southern woman writer: a young southern female's initiation into the world in the course of her growingup, problems and dilemmas a married woman confronted and some experiences and consciousness at abroad, especially in Mexico. Then it discusses writing styles according to the introduction of the use of language, image, symbolism, stream-of-consciousness, allocation of time and irony. Katherine Anne Porter's southern woman writer's characteristics and rebellious consciousness are represented thoroughly. Her stories penetrate the presentation of women's social roles, mortality, alienation, and familial legends and delusions. In face of life's chaos and loneliness, Porter takes active and ironic attitude to meet the challenge of objective reality.
