The present study investigates the motivational factors and the instructor immediacy of Japanese students. Participants were 43 students enrolled in College of Chinese Studies at Beijing Language and Culture University. The data were collected through a survey method. T-tests and correlation were used to address the research questions.The results of the study indicate that integrative motivation orientation is more important than instrument motivation orientation, it is the initial motivation for students to learn Chinese, In addition, motivational factors correlate significantly with the desired learning outcomes from the expectancy theory. And perceived Japanese student motivation factor are correlated with particular Chinese instructor nonverbal and verbal immediacy behaviors. Immediacy appears to modify motivation which leads to increased learning. Based upon the findings recommendations are made to enhance students' motivation, expectancy, and self-efficacy in learning.
