| The Frankfurt School underwent two typical social language environment-The Fascistic German and The Consumerism America, and it inherited the traditional Germany philosophical speculative tendency and the literary spirit. Concerning the alienation phenomena in human society, the Frankfurt School directed their spearheads against the popular culture, they criticized and negated the popular culture. They thought it was the popular culture that buried in oblivion the essence and spirit of the true art, and they considered the popular culture as a category of deceitful, manipulative ideology which was commercialization, supposition and standardization. They treated and criticized unilaterally the popular culture, they failed to realize the fact that the popular culture had enriched the human civilization. With passive, neglectful and pessimistic insight, they treated the populace and neglected their subjective initiative, this is where their historical restricts exist. However, their popular cultural critical theory is positively significant in modern China's cultural development. With the theory, our country's elite rank will be able to strengthen their critical ability and critical spirit. The theory is also a critical theoritic reference which is in favour of promoting the cultural consciousness when we base ourselves upon the ideal and face the cultural reality. |
