Analyzing The Phenomenon Of The Variation Usage Of The Quantifier In Modern Chinese

Quantifier is a kind of unit word that expresses person, thing or movement. Its main function is measuring. But while reading some literary works, we find that the function of a lot of quantifiers is not merely measuring, but expressing the author's subjective emotion or improving the expression of the language. In other words, its measurement function weakens here.The variation usage of the quantifier disobeys its using norms consciously. It is a kind of positive rhetoric methods and one of language variations. This paper defines the variation usage of the quantifier first, then analyses thoroughly the variation usage of quantifier in three parts: the source of the quantifier, the semantic character and the pragmatic function.
