A Multi-dimensional Study On Coexisting Structure Of Adverbial NPs

Regarding the semantic-grammatical features of coexisting structure of adverbial NPs, there have been many researches. And the difference between this study and other researches lies in its research range and perspective. Basing on past outcomes on this topic, this study addresses the syntactic-semantic-pragmatic features of coexisting structure of adverbial NPs from three dimensions. The thesis is divided into four parts.The first part is preface. It illustrates the definition, function and being unique of coexisting structure of NPs, and introduces the state of the art of coexisting structure and coexisting structure of adverbial NPs.The second part is a formal description. It focuses on the features of phonetic forms and formal forms of coexisting structure of adverbial NPs, and the major factors constraining word order. Regarding their phonetic form, there usually exists four continuous syllables with two among them forming a coexisting structure respectively. And there are seven structure types, and its structure stability has three levels. In addition, the main factors influencing word order include logical elements, natural habit element and cognitive element. The third part is a semantic analysis. It deals with the lexical-semantic hierarchy of coexisting structure of adverbial NPs, namely, integration in words, meaning in words, formatting of meaning, integration out of words and meaning in sentences. It has investigated the grammatical features and motivation of coexisting structure of adverbial NPs. It is founded that the nouns constructing coexisting structure are either individual nouns or proper nouns, and their referential meaning would weaken and declarative meaning strengthen when they are in adverbial position.So coexisting structure of adverbial NPs function as predicative words and the part of speech of theirs change into predicative words. In addition, a summary of the nuclear meaning and formal meaning of coexisting structure of adverbial NPs has been presented in this part. The former is comparative meaning and the latter meaning of quantity and degree. At the end of this part, an analysis of the sematic orientation of coexisting structure of adverbial NPs is presented. The fourth part is a pragmatic analysis. It is suggested that the use of coexisting structure of adverbial NPs serves to imitate reality vividly through focus-highlighting phonetic, syntactic techniques and colloquial style.The originality of this thesis lies in the following aspects: first, it is the first attempt that has examined the syntactic-semantic-pragmatic features of coexisting structure of adverbial NPs; second, a summary of the types and internal hierarchy of the coexisting structure of adverbial NPs along with its lexical-semantic type has been proposed in this thesis; third, it includes a tentative study on the motivation for the coexisting structure of adverbial NPs,namely,functioning as predicative words;fourth, it is proposed that the use of coexisting structure of adverbial NPs serves to highlight utterance focus by imitating reality vividly.
