As a great modern poet, T · S · Eliot has produced a profound impact upon the development of the poetry at home and abroad in the 20th century . First, the thesis investigates the translation works and studies of T · S · Eliot made in the Chinese academic since the 80s, generalizes several phases of the Eliotian study, and analyzes the typical research achievements so as to comprehend the acceptance and attention of Eliotian study. Second, based on the analysis of Eliot's major theoretical concepts, such as conception of "tradition" , "impersonality theory" and "objective relative", the thesis discusses the existent or potential influence of Eliot's theories and critical discourse on the critical conception and the criticism of the Chinese poetry in order to reveal Eliot's great contributions to the theoretic studies of the contemporary Chinese poetry . Last, the thesis selects some representatives in the field of the contemporary Chinese poetry from different perspectives to develop the detailed comparative analysis with Eliot.The thesis argues that "the Eliotian tradition" has been latent in the criticism and creation of the contemporary Chinese poetry since the modern times and Eliot's influence will continue to last, which is bound to keep the conventions of the Chinese poetry and to inspire its prosperity.
