Together with hisfather, Yan Shu who is famous in the literary history as well, they are called "Two Yans" or"Senior and Junior Yans" by the researchers afterwards. However, the studies on Yan Jidaoand his works have not drawn much attention because on the one hand, there are fewwritten records to make sure his living expectancy and on the other, the content and themein his creation are relatively narrower. Despite the fact that there have been some researchpapers on him since the 1980s, those studies have not conduct penetrating investigation. Therefore in this paper, we take the ci-poetry of Yan Jidao into consideration and make thetitle "A Study on the Sorrowful Ci-Poetry by Yan Jidao". Our aim is to understand this"ancient and heart-broken poet" (Feng Xu) deeper through the examination of his works. This paper is composed of four parts. In the first part, we base our discussions on thevery person and his background information so as to analysis the psychological complex ofcreating the ci which expresses a grieved and sorrowful feeling. Through the discussion weget to understand the clue of his creation style which is closely connected with hisexperience and misfortune. The second, third and fourth parts investigate Yan's sorrowfulci from the three perspectives of environmental manifestation, sentimental aspect andconstruction respectively. Also we integrate the research methods of statistics andcomparison for the purpose of rigorous argumentation. Finally we argue in this paper thatthe creation of dreary, sorrowful but gracious and subtle ci by Yan Jidao is due to thefollowing two factors. The first should be his lifetime of frustrations and Secondly, hiscreation is influenced greatly by the traditional style prevailing in Chinese history ofliterature, that is, "the more sorrowful, the more beautiful". Hence his special style ofci-creation. Furthermore, since literature can somehow compensate the innermost being ofpeople and carry the ideality and desirability of authors, Yan's melancholy feelings can bereleased and expressed temporarily at the same time he was creating these ci-poetry. Thislast factor might be the deep-seated complex of production of Yan Jidao. | | Keywords/Search Tags: | Yan Jidao, sorrowful ci-poetry, manifestation of sorrowful ci-poetry, sentimental layer, creation of the sorrowful environment | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
