The Comparison And English Translation Of The Dialogues Between Lower And Upper Class In Literary Texts

The standard written language has been the focus of attention as a set of rules can be established easily on the regular and standard language. Whereas, the translation of the colloquial expressions in the literary works has been neglected for a long time, as it is more irregular and flexible. The colloquial expressions are of greater importance as they are "live" and most natural language which is in practical use. The dialogues in literary works which come from life and are more complicated than those in life are worthy of comprehensive research. The dissertation aims to explore the translation methods of dialogues of various people with different status through the stylistic comparison and functional analysis. It generalizes the theories on stylistics and translation with quantitative analysis of scores of original English and the translation version of the dialogues in literary works, which contributes to analyze the stylistic difference and functional equivalence of translation through quantitative analysis, content analysis, and casual-comparative research as a result of purposive sampling and random sampling. The dissertation attempts to summarize the common characteristics and the differences and the translation methods of the dialogues of lower and upper class. Through thorough analysis, the dissertation proves it is worthy trying to apply stylistic features including phonological and lexical characteristics and sentence structure to different literary texts and further elaborates the so-called untranslatable phenomenon of dialect, cultural loss and performability, which is of great help in the theoretical and practical basis in the structures and features, the translation criticism and translation methods in the dialogues of literary works and has new elaboration on the above respects.
