The Research About Literary Activities Of Zhou Shoujuan

During late Qing dynasty and the early of Republic of China, Zhou Shoujuan bengan to translate and write lots of fictions, especially short novels. He edited the literary newspapers and magazines, such as "Saturday", "Shenbao Daily Free Talk", "The Semimonthly", "Voilet" and so on. As a famous author of the Mandarin Duck and Butterfly School in Chinese modern literature history, he got a great achievement in the literary activities including translation, inditement and edit.During "Saturday" period, Zhou Shoujuan focused on translating foreign novels so as to learn the skills how to write good fictions, which afforded Chinese readers a good many of excellent novels and helped Chinese authors abandon the old partten. During "The Semimonthly" period, Zhou Shoujuan became a mature writer in novels inditement sphere, especially the novel of sentiment. During "Violet" period, Zhou Shoujuan wrote and translated more novels and some new characters turned up. According these achievements, my paper mostly discussed Zhou Shoujuan's literary activities. In the words, he used fluent colloquialism to narrate, in the form, he discarded the old novel pattern, in the content, Zhou Shoujuan described many social classes and problems about marriage, family, emotion and the like. The magazines he edited and the works he wrote as the magnum opus of the Mandarin Duckand Butterfly School had many new characters. For example, the magazines he edited had fancy covers, beautiful iconographs and so on. Zhou Shoujuan had the mature ideal about magazine-editing since "Saturday" period, if you want to edit well, you should expand the scope and try to do well every aspect.Zhou Shoujuan is a journalist, witer, translator and businessman, which is always in a significant station in Chinese modern literary history and also is a great writer of the Mandarin Duck and Butterfly School.
