This thesis is to analyze the pattern of Song and Dance Duet of Inner Mongolia which was created in the last century through interactive and cultural communication between the Han and Mongolia nationalities who led their lives generations after generations from both sides of the Great Wall to north and south of Yin Mountain to Yellow River. Song and Dance Duet of Inner Mongolia is the artistic fruit of the Han and Mongolia nationalities. It embodies the features and characteristics of the grasslands as well as farming culture. From the morphological perspective of music, this thesis, accordingly, is to analyze and discuss all aspects of its features and characteristics. Drawing on the experience of pioneers in this field, the author of this thesis tries to employ the analytical methods of musical morphology, put forward by Mr. Zhao Songguang in his Discussion on the Construction of Melody Discipline (1995, 2001) and Positive Exploration of 12-D Analysis for Morphology of Melody (2000, 2001), from five aspects, namely, singing voices, folk art forms, phrasing structure, the modality and tonality and musical instrument, to discuss and analyze the Song and Dance Duet and then reveal its unique morphological features. This thesis discusses several aspects, such as the singing voices and musical styles, type variations, singing features, features of using tunes and opening bars. It also gives special introduction to the origin, development, evolution and pattern of folk art forms. The instrument and performance of Song and Dance Duet are also briefed in this thesis. In addition, the thesis foci on the phrasing structure and the modality and tonality. The thesis precisely analyzes the phrasing structure, and summarizes various patterns, such as two-verse period structure, three-verse period structure, four-verse period structure and multi-verse period structure. The modality and tonality are analyzed, either mono-form or tune variation. The author tries to analyze the Duet from three dimensions—detail, part as well as structural logic, with the attempt to provide a brand-new analytical style for the research of Song and Dance Duet. She believes that her efforts are a new attempt, as far as the present research of Song and Dance Duet is concerned.
