This thesis is about the analysis and comparison between Jung's personality psychology and Buddhism theory of Consciousness-only school. The Jungian Psychology includes philosophy, religion, anthropology, medicine, literature and so on. With lots of human experience , Jung describes what is ' human-being' as a whole. The theories of Consciousness-only school, originating from Mahayana in India ,analyse the xin of human. The theory about xin's framework and function are analogous with Jungian Psychology. This article will use the two theories to achieve reciprocal understanding, thus to communicate the east and the west and wish to find the answer of 'The Sphinx's Riddle'.Chapter One: Here will focus on the framework of personality and the function of every part. In Jung's eyes , there are three parts in the psyche ,they are consciousness, personal unconscious and collective unconscious. According to the doctrine of Consciousness-only school, sentient beings possess eight distinct layers of consciousness. This chapter will compare the two frameworks of personality with each other, and find the difference between 'archetypes' and 'seeds'.Chapter Two: This part is trying to study the psychic energy and it's form. The comparison between the theory of psychic energy and the theory of Karma will help us to find the relation between material and sprit, their reciprocal action in particular.Chapter Three: This chapter will mention about the development process of personality. It will be discussed in three parts—the contradiction of framework ofpersonality , the relation between environment and development of personality, the essence of development of personality.Chapter Four: this part is to discuss the aim and means of the development of personality. Jung's theory about individuation is similar with the theory of Consciousness-only school. The two theories agree on the point that our development of personality will be controlled by the self, which is named Manas in Consciousness-only school. But the means used by Jung to promote the development of personality are similar with the personality development pattern of Consciousness-only school. Therefore, this chapter makes comparison between individuation and the process of transforming consciousness and gaining wisdom as well.
