Part I The Design of the ERPs Multimedia Stimulating SystemObjective An ERPs multimedia stimulating system was designed and connected to the digital electroencephalogram and evoked potentials instrument in order to investigate the ERPs.Methods With the Windows 2000 and Delphi program various stimulating modules were designed. The date-bases of stimulating modules, multimedia, parameters of stimuli and subject's information were established with the MSSQLServer program. Some series of stimuli were construed with stimulating modules and evaluated.Result All kinds of ERPs which relating to the stimulating closely were evoked with the ERPs multimedia stimulating system and the digital electroencephalogram and evoked potentials instrumentConclusions The design of the ERPs multimedia stimulating system is reasonable and credible. The system can be applied in the ERPs studying and be generalizedKeywords multimedia stimulating system; ERPs; stimulating module; date-basePart II Prime Study of ERPs Evoked by Number Discerning and Calculation Objective To investigate the features of ERPs, which are evoked by number discerning and calculating stimuli and the relationships between the them. The neuro -electrophysiology of number discerning and calculation and the relationship between ERPs and aging were analyzed.Methods While the stimuli information is presented on the screen, EEGs were recorded simultaneously. 26 healthy undergraduate students and 38 pupils were examined with two stimuli. The ERPs of number discerning and calculating were obtained and studied. Grand mean mapping and three dimensions brain electrical activity mapping of the ERPs were established and the sources of ERPs were analyzed through them. The relations between the ERPs and aging are studied.Result ERPs of number discerning and calculation were elicited with similar wave -forms and difference latencies. The latencies of ERPs evoked with number discerning were shorter than those evoked with calculation. The latencies of ERPs in undergraduate students were shorter than those in pupils. The largest amplitude of ERPs elicited by calculating and number recognizing both present in parietal lobe.Conclusions The processing of calculating is more complicated than that of number discerning and The electrophysiology of them are different. The parietal lobe is the functional domains of them. The diverse latencies in different aging subjects reflect the development of cerebral function.
