| This article was divided into four parts:1. In the first part ,the author consider that the culture conservatism was an trend of thought which focus its criticize on the process of modernization. The magnificent background of wide spread modernization produced contemporary Chinese culture conservatism. The author believes that the forerunner of contemporary China's culture conservatism thought can be dated back to the "Confucianism religion" which represented by Kang you-wei, but 20-century's Chinese culture conservatism was stemmed from "Chinese culture quintessence school ", after it was "Xue Heng school", it emphasize morality rather than politic. The contemporary Neo-Confucianism was the mainstream of Chinese culture conservatism. Liang Shu-ming's thought inherited "Confucianism religion", but also inspired "contemporary Neo-Confucianism", took an extremely special historical status in the development of Chinese culture conservatism. This article attempts to analyze its theoretical foundation and stress its feature, above all, to display its special value for historical and contemporary world.2.In the second part, the author analyzed Liang Shu-ming's remarkable book, 《The Comparison between Eastern and Western Culture and Philosophy》 . In this book, Liang Shu-ming explained his reason about the reviving of Chinese culture. Liang constructed his theoretical foundation : Western\Chinese\India culture represented three stages of the culture development of mankind, they gave solutions to the problems of three differentlevels of human life___this is the regular pattern of world culture development, thus thereviving of Chinese culture is unquestionable. From this view of point, Chinese should learn from the spirit of western culture but discard its materialism. In the fact, Liang's attitude toward Chinese and Western culture was typically practical.3.In this part, the author firstly analyze the difference between Liang Shu-ming'thought and "Confucianism religion": (l)Kang You-wei expected Confucianism to resolve Chinese political crisis; but Liang Shu-ming's expectation was to develop Chinese culture by the reviving of Confucianism;(2)Kang You-wei viewed Confucian as an politician, Liang Shu-ming viewed Confucian as an ethic thinker;(3)From the standpoint of Kang you-wei, Confucianism was religion rather than philosophy, but Liang believes that Confucianism was not religion but a thought of ethic.Secondly, the difference between Liang Shu-ming's thought and "Chinese culture quintessence school" was: (l)Upon the attitude toward traditional culture, Liang Shu-ming was more conservative than "Chinese culture quintessence schooI";(2)Liang Shu-ming had the greatest esteem for Neo-Confucianism especially Yang-ming school; but "Chinese culture quintessence school" mainly esteemed Pre-Qing dynasty Confucianism, and also praised highly about Daoism;(3)The scholars of "Chinese culture quintessence school" were nationalists, their logic was" if culture extinct, the nation and race was also doomed to perish"; but Liang Shu-ming was not a nationalist but a patriot, he held great sense of responsibility for the rescuing of world culture, he attempted to transform world culture bydeveloping Chinese culture.Thirdly, the difference between Liang Shu-ming and Xiong Shi-li was: both studying Confucianism, Liang stress practice but Xiong attach great importance on theory, thus Xiong's theory was far more grand and strict than Liang's.Finally, the difference between Liang Shu-ming and Feng You-lan's thought laid on two points: firstly,Feng thought that the difference between Chinese and Western culture was of time, but Liang believe that was of the way of developing and national spirit; secondly, they selected different way for the further development of Chinese culture: Feng advocated society-oriented producing style to replace family-oriented producing stule, Liang advocated "the modernization of Confucianism".4.In this last part, the author argues that Liang made a transcendental introspection about China's modernization with his sharp mind; his introspection contains a number of inspirations which is valuable to the situation of post-industrial society. Since Liang didn't make an sufficient study about contemporary science, his great thinking was fall into oblivion. But speak the truth, it still worth our further thinking and valuable to the problems which we are facing now. |
