During the war, for both subjective and objective causes, he shifted his literary concept.In the war, Lao She formed a new kind of literary concept, which was subject to the war. In order to serve the war, Lao She chose popular literature as the weapon from the following ideas: "spreading the literature to the country and the army", "new contents with old form", "popular words, popular stories" and the difference between popular literature and mass literature. The focus of his ideas in nationalism was the advantages of the state higher than any others'. Lao She also continued the criticism on national characteristics and reflection on Chinese traditional culture. So he united anti-Japanese literary and art workers in all fields to fight against Japan's aggression.Dante as well as his literary work La Divine Comedian influenced Lao She. Lao She said, "La Divine Comedian benefited me most." In that special time, Dante influenced Lao She so much that Lao She's literary concept during the Anti-Japanese War showed a new kind of characteristics, such as shifting from liberalism to social utilitarianism, choosing popular literature as the weapon and criticism on national characteristics, etc.This thesis holds the point that Lao She's literary concept shifted in the Anti-Japanese War.
