The Pictophonetic Characters Relation Of Shuowenjiezi And The Discussion On Archaic Chinese Phonology

The archaic Chinese phonology plays an important role in the study of Chinese history, also in the study of Sino-tibetan phylum. On the basis of the previous research, the materials on the archaic Chinese phonology become more and more, such as the verse in Qin dynasty ,the phonetic compound characters in shuowenjiezi etc. Correspondently, we also have more and more research methods such as historical comparison method and so on.Based on the pictophonetic characters in shuowenjiezi, the paper use statistical method to check the relations among the pictophonetic characters, and further explore the initial consonant system in the archaic Chinese.The paper is composed of two parts, the first introduces in detail the process that people know about the lingering charm of phonetic compound characters and the research on the archaic Chinese by scholars like karlgren,B, Li Fanggui, Dong Tonghe and Pan Wuyun.The second part mainly explores the single initial consonant and compound initial consonant in archaic Chinese according to the statistics from shuowenjiezi. also ,the paper makes a trial research on the form of the archaic Chinese phonology .
