A Study On The Prevalence And Its Related Factors Of Suicide Idea And Attempted Suicide In College Students Of Guangzhou.

Objective To probe into prevalence of the suicide idea and attempted suicide and their related factors in the college students of Guangzhou to lay basis for school health education.Method 2564 undergraduates from 8 universities in Guangzhou were investigated with stratified random cluster sampling. First, through Questionnaire found factors associated with suicide idea and attempted suicide were analyzed with Logistic Regress by portion that Common condition, Suicide behavior and related factors , Adolescent Self-Rate Life Events Check List (ASLEC), Social Support Rating Scale (SSRS), Simple Coping Modes. Then, we took the Focus group discussions to discuss the tackle of the prevention of suicide behavior.Results 11.6% of subjects reported they had suicide idea in the latest year, only 2.0% of them completely accord with the standards of suicide idea. Among different school, the suicide idea ratio have difference; 6.0% of the subjects reported they attempted suicide in the latest year, only 0.7% of them completely accord with the standard of attempted suicide. The students coming from urban areas had more high risk with attempting suicide than the students coming from suburban areas. The attitude towards to suicidal behavior is the most important risk factor. Alcohol consumption, friends of subjects had suicidal behavior, domestic violence, seldom exercise, negative coping and negative life event are the risk factors of suicide idea and attempted suicide. Social support is a protective factor. Through focus group discussion, we found that the students thought suicidal behavior was so far away from them, most of them had a tolerant attitude towards the suicidal behavior, a fewof them opposed to the suicidal behavior.Conclusion There is high reported ratio of suicide idea and attempted suicide in the latest year, but only 2.0% of them complete accord with the standards of suicide idea, and 0.7% of them complete accord with the standard of attempted suicide. The students coming from urban areas had more high risk with attempting suicide than the students coming from suburban areas. Though the cause of suicide is complicated, do what we can do through health education, remove the risk factors and enforce the protective factors, suicidal behavior can prevent.
