Our modern society now relies more and more on images, and the reality is often illustrated by the information images give us. The abundance of images stemmed from the invention of photography in the 19th century. Because the spirit of science and the reason of technology get involved into the western painting, the birth of photography, through which we can get images in a convenient and correct way, is the inevitable outcome of the evolution of western painting itself. Painting in the 19th century made use of the materials and visual ways of photographs consciously or unconsciously, which enriched the painting techniques, enlarged the choices of motif, as well as influenced people's aesthetic ideas. The development of photography based on the development of science and technology, so the impact that photography gave to painting was, essentially, the impact that technology gave to art. The influence that the limited techniques early black-and-white photos need on the quite mature and varied art of painting was quite helpful and in an aspiring manner...
