A Study Of Constructions Of Wasei-eigo (Japanese English)

Wasei-eigo(Japanese English) constitute a special group in Japanese loanwords, whose appearance and activeness have reflected a tendency that the ways Japanese borrows vocabularies from English and other languages in nowadays has been developed from pure loaning to word formation.Stemming from a common knowledge of research value of compounds in word formation, this dissertation takes in wasei-eigo(Japanese English) compounds as a focus, and explores their characteriatics in formation by applying contact theory in sociolinguistics. It categoizes and analyzes the factors, ways in formation and the relationshps of the formal and the latter lexicon, and compares English and Japanese word formation in dealing with a specific formation structure with a reference to the development of wasei-kango(Japanese English) Chinese. This research of word formation of wasei-kango(Japanese Chinese) compounds attampts to investigate the current situation English compound formations influnce Japanese original ones, so as to explore the extent of which modern Japanese is influnced and accepts foreign languages, mainly English. On the basis of former research results and methods, the dissertation generalizes the characteristics of word formation of wasei-eigo(Japanese English) compounds and discusses their developing tenetency by applying the related theories and appoaches in word formation, lexicology, semantics and grammar.
