The Research On The Game Addicts' Cognitive Style And Personality Characteristics

This present study mainly discussed the relations of cognitive style, personalitycharacteristics and computer game addiction. There are three main research goals. The first isto draw up a computer game addiction questionnaire for university students. The second is toinvestigate the relation of university students' personality characteristics and computer gameaddiction. The third is to discuss the relation of the cognitive style and the computer gameaddiction.This research used the University Students' Computer Game Addiction Questionnaire,the cognitive style analysis system and 16 PF to investigate the relations of cognitive style,the personality characteristics and computer game addiction. The findings are as thefollowing:1. Gender difference existed among the total score as well as five factors of computergames scores. Also the score of male students were higher than the female students.2. There was no grade difference on computer games addiction, but there was game agedifference.3. There was no significant correlation between the verbal type of cognitive style, themiddle type of cognitive style, the image type of cognitive style, the whole type of cognitivestyle and computer game addiction. But there was significant correlation between dual type ofcognitive style and life conflict dimension. There was significant correlation between theanalysis type of cognitive style, the total score of computer game addiction, the threedimensions including the time management, the life conflict and the public relationsdisturbance.4. Significant negative relation was found between the Computer Game Addiction andWarmth, Emotional Stability, Liveliness, Rule-Consciousness, Social Boldness, Perfectionism.There was significant positive relation between the Computer Game Addiction and Vigilance,Apprehension, Tension.5. Computer Game Addiction is caused by Tension, Vigilance, Rule-Consciousness andLiveliness personality characteristic, game age and whole-analysis type of cognitive style.Based on the study, we come up with the following suggestion:Conducting mental health educations to help game addicts understand the negativeaspect of computer game addiction. To establish the cooperation groups to control game timeof students.
