With the mutation as its object and with the present research of the mutation and the investigation to the dialect as its objective materials, this paper systematically analyzes the mutation of the Datong dialect from the aspects of tone sandhi, neutral tone and er-lization, etc.The system of the initial consonant, vowel and tone of the Datong dialect is first generalized in this dissertation. In the part of the tone sandhi, this paper analyzes the disyllable of the tone sandhi in details and describes its features, analysis and the phenomenon of the same sound from different tone and compares the tone sandhi of the Datong dialect with that of the Mandarin Chinese. In the part of the neutral tone, the author categories it into the lexical neutral tone and the grammatical neutral tone with the former as the majority, and presents the phonetic value of the Datong dialect from two ways: one way is about the phonetic value of the neutral tone words of some syllables do not change from the lax tone to the abrupt tone, and the other way is about the phonetic value of the neutral tone words of some syllables change from the lax tone to the abrupt tone, and makes a comparison between the neutral tone of the Datong dialect and that of Mandarin Chinese. In the part of the er-lization, the thirteen er-lization scansions have been summarized. With the analysis of their articulating mechanism, the author forecasts the developing tendency of er-lization scansion and classifies the tone sandhi of er-lization into reduplication and non-reduplication type, draws the conclusion that the former is more popular.The systematic description of the mutation of the Datong dialect will contribute to the research on the Datong dialect as well as the phonetic research on the Jin dialect and others.
