The research topics of this thesis focus on a dynamic study on context of passive voice innews texts. The thesis explores how the factors of context influence and constrain the use ofpassive voice and how passive voice in news texts realizes a dynamic study on context.Altogether, the thesis consists of five sections: Section One is the general introduction of the thesis. In terms of Halliday's SystemicFunctional Grammar and Context Theory, the section discusses the purpose and significanceof research on the topic. And the part gives a brief introduction of principles of data collection.Meanwhile explaining the reason why the study of passive voice should be put into text andcontexts. There is a summary of passive voice that is used in clausal level, textual level andcontext level in this thesis.Section Two explores context, text and the relationships between context and text. Thispart discusses the development of Context Theory in Linguistics and summarizes the scholars'views on the notions of context. It also discusses cohesive features of the texts and theireffects and why sample news texts. A functional view of contextual factors and semantics andtexts is showed.Section Three gives an introduction of passive voice. It analyzes the characteristicfeatures of passive voice and the reason why choose the study of passive voice. Section Four is the dynamic study of passive voice on context. This part states why wesample a dynamic study on context. According to Halliday's model, the section shows thetransitivity analysis of passive voice and explores the textual metafunction of passive voiceand its functional use in news texts. It discusses the dynamic factors that influence andconstrain the use of passive voice in context. The analysis at the context level of situation andtransitivity analyses of the use of passive voice in the news texts are explored. Section Five concludes the thesis.
