Through study over Chinese pictographs in aspects of its form pattern, combination rule, this study is aiming to take shape the ideology of pattern creation of traditional symbolic language such as "lines, meaning", and to look for the source of beauty appreciation of "resemblance of non-resemblance". Through study over symbolic patterned language, by proving problems of creation in wash paintings lies in a fixed patterned language system, this study is looking forward to solutions for problems of creation. Hereunder are mainly four issues covered by the study :1. One may observe that Chinese pictographs present vivid depiction after studying over the combination rule of pictographs, and one should always judge from the whole sentences especially when they are shortly but effectively structured. A beauty appreciation ideology of "resemblance of non-resemblance" is therefore generated.2. Resulted from the development of "lines" of primitive image symbols, each of Chinese pictographs presents one image. In the development process of word images into simple and abstract words, "lines" were very much used. An ideology of using "lines" for expressing images had been ever since planted in primitive Chinese minds. In time, image creation with "lines" in Chinese paintings subsequently formed.3. Associative compounds is a character system in which a couple of pictographs combines together to create a new meaning. Imagination is needed for words to make senses as breaking down words combinations. By practicing imagination in analyzing words, a habit of "gauging real meaning" is consciously and gradually formed in the long term practices. For the pictographs are attached with the touch of paintings, the said habit directly influenced the patterned language of ideology of Chinese orthodox paintings.4. The pattern of the "combination" of wash paintings results in creations of either uniform or similar type of works, which don't give much impressions. Furthermore, the firmness of the fixed pattern of "symbols" keeps subject matters of wash paintings on the same old track of mono-image presenting. Consequently, the root cause of creative problems of wash paintings lies in if we have correct acknowledgement of patterned language.
