This paper probes into the Gadamer's criticism on Kantian doctrine of aesthetic consciousness mainly according to the first part of .Gadamer reveals that Kantian doctrine of aesthetic consciousness originates from the tradition of humanism but abandons it in return. So it shows the characteristics of transcendentalism and formalism, but in some faces Kant also inclines to transcend the transcendentalism and formalism especially on the art. Gadamer also reveals Kantian doctrine of aesthetic consciousness bases on the subjectivism and follows the research model of classical epistemology, so it denies the truth in art. But Gadamer vindicates the truth in art by basing his art theory on the phenomenology also including dimensions of existentialism and hermeneutics. I show that Kantian doctrine of aesthetic consciousness in fact also has the three dimensions of phenomenology existentialism and hermeneutics by the comparison between Kant and Gadamer. So Gadamer absorbs or suspends Kantian doctrine of aesthetic consciousness by emphasize the inherent negative elements of it. Through that Gadamer establishes the truth beyond the range of scientific methodology and so establishes the hermeneutic ontology.
