Fashion design education is an applied subject that is closely related to society, market and life styles. This paper tries to explore the present situation and reforms of Chinese higher education of fashion design.This paper is divided into three chapters. The first chapter named THE HISTORY AND REALITY OF CHINESE FASHION DESIGN INDUSTRY studied the development of Chinese fashion design and pointed out the value of conducting research in its education. The second chapter named THE PRESENT SITUATION OF CHINESE HIGHER EDUCATION OF FASHION DESIGN analyzes two extremes in fashion design education and problems in teaching fashion design. The third chapter named REFORM AND PROSPECT OF CHINESE FASHION DESIGN EDUCATION provides three possible ways of reform. Firstly, curriculum reform to establish a new system. Secondly, personnel reform to help improve the qualities of teachers. Thirdly, features reform to strengthen our tradition and culture in fashion design. And the last point is also our most distinguishing feature which is being practiced in reality . All these reforms are important ways to improve our education notions and provide a solid basis for future development of fashion design education.
