Tang-song period was a peak in the social economic development in acient China. The different fields of social economy, especially the commodity economy even reached a new height, of which the prosperity of hotels was one of the obvious signs.Hotels in Tang-song period had many kinds, including mainly commercial hotels, official posthouses and temple inns, and other forms of hotels-to-be were, of course, the necessary complements. They formed a large-scale hotels service industry of this period. In this period, commercial hotels became the mainforce and were widely distributed and spread all over the urban and rural areas, there were a large number of such hotels, especially in Song dynasty, some hotels'compact communities appeared in cities. They had different scales and were well– arranged. The commercial hotels in Song were better than those in Tang dynasty. Besides, in this period, even more adequate rules and regulations in posthouses were laid down in the range of the whole country. The number of posthouses became greater in number and also improved a lot in management. A complete official network of communication lines thus formed in the country. Meanwhile, various temples and palaces increased a lot. Many inns in religious places were built, aiming at making things easy for others, so putting up at an inn or hotel in temples or palaces also became a popular social phenomenon.In Tang and Song dynasties, the hotels'management advanced a lot, comparing with that in the previous dynasties, especially in the commercial hotels and official posthouses, The commercial hotels'management body presented a pluralistic tendency and emphasized the market factor at the same time. For example, the choosing of address, construction of hardware and sales promotion of advertisements as well as the contents of hotels'management add receptive service all tool the markets and requirements of the various consumer communities as point of departure. The keen market competition spurred the managers to create continuously new management tactics; the exploring of the government and the unpredictable market also facilitated them to establish their own trade organization gradually and consciously in order to uphold the interest of the whole industry.
